Oliver Hüsing has signed a professional contract with SV Werder Bremen as the defender will remain with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2017, as confirmed Tuesday afternoon by Frank Baumann, Werder's director of professional football and scouting.
"We are happy about binding another player from our youth system long term to the club. Oliver hinted at his potential with the U23s and will be brought to the Bundesliga club step by step," said Baumann. Head coach Robin Dutt also thinks highly of the 21-year-old Hüsing. "He is a very talented defender who distinguishes himself through some strong challenges. Unfortunately, Oliver was injured a while last year. That makes it all the better that he wants to take the next challenge with us," said Dutt.
Hüsing played with the Werder U17 and U19 teams before reaching the U23s, where he debuted in the third league on 21 April 2012 against VfR Aalen. The tall defender moved the following season for good into the U23 squad and has played 29 matches in the Regionalliga Nord league. Hüsing has taken part in training with Werder's professional team a number of times since the beginning of the year.
