The season ended with the final whistle at 8:53 p.m., starting the official summer holidays for the SV Werder professionals. Head coach Robin Dutt's players have six weeks to recover from the rigors of the past months and recharge their batteries for the up-coming season.
While their teammates tried to present one more orderly performance in the final test match, internationals Sebastian Prödl and Zlatko Junuzovic were already on holiday. Dutt granted them a few days more off after the match in Heeslingen. And there was good reason for that as ‘Basti' and ‘Juno' will have to play again in late May for the Austrian national team. It's no wonder that Prödl used the time before the international matches to travel home. Besides a golf tournament in Bad Waltersdorf, the Werder defensive boss also would like to visit Vienna, as he said on his Facebook page.
Raphael Wolf, Santiago Garcia and Eljero Elia meanwhile have entirely different vacation destinations. The Green-Whites keeper is looking forward a time without football. "After I only had a one week break because of my injury last year, this time I have just as much holiday as the rest of the team. I will use that to spend time with my family," said Wolf, who will relax a few days on Crete and Mallorca.
Garcia will take his break nearby. "First of all, I am going to the Balearic Islands with my girlfriend to totally relax for a week. After that, we will fly home to Argentina. But even though Brazil is not far away, I will not watch the World Cup at home. I am happy about getting away from football for a month. I will take holiday with my brother Manuel in Mexico. I am really looking forward to that," said ‘Santi'
Eljero Elia meanwhile is planning a trip to North America after stops in Ibiza and Marrakesh before landing in the U.S. Even though the United States will be his last stop, ‘Elli' has a pretty set idea about his stay in the U.S. "I will mainly look around in Mami, but I will certainly find time for a trip to Las Vegas as well," said the Werder midfielder. He might meet up with Cedrick Makiadi as the 30-year-old midfielder is planning a three-week trip around the States.
Theodor Gebre Selassie has completely different holiday plans. Directly after the test match in Teistungen, he drove to his Czech home in Liberec where his girlfriend Leona is expecting the couple's first child. Gebre Selassie plans on using his holiday for the birth and everything revolving around that. But Theo will definitely be back in Bremen on Thursday 26 June when coach Dutt will kick off training for the 2014-15 season at 10 a.m.
