Austrian junior international Florian Grillitsch will transfer this summer to SV Werder as the 17-year-old arrives from the St. Pölten junior academy after tallying 22 goals in 22 league matches.
"We are happy that Florian decided on us," said Thomas Wolter, sports head of the youth performance academy. "There were numerous prominent competitors and we are happy that we could convince him. We hope he will go his way with us." And the 17-year-old offensive midfielder is certain of that. "Werder really worked hard to get me. I can develop here the best. That's why I decided on Bremen," said Grillitisch. His father Michael agrees: "The entire package convinced us that he can take the next step in his development here."
The midfielder played a major role in his team winning the U18 junior league championship - ahead of big-time rivals such as RB Salzburg and Austria Vienna. "I would say scoring goals is one of my strengths," said the junior league's scoring champion. But his father Michael added: "I would also add heading skills, anticipation and game intelligence."
Grillitisch now wants to get accustomed to Bremen quickly. "Long term of course the goal is run into Weser Stadium some time," said the young talent, who added that the modern environment around the club played a role in his decision. "You cannot find these kinds of conditions in Austria. It's really great here," raved the new Werder youngster.
