Thomas Schaff's team fought to a deserved 1-1 draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach Saturday evening with a committed performance. "The result is a success for us. We can use that. I am satisfied with how the team played," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin after the match at Borussia Park.
WERDER.DE collected other reaction after the match:
Thomas Schaaf: "I am very happy today with the performance of my team. We clearly improved as compared to the last few weeks. We played compactly and disciplined. Through that, we didn't give our opponents very much and kept pushing forward ourselves. So we can be happy today with the performance and the result."
Clemens Fritz: "We played a very, very committed game. Especially after we fell behind, we went forward very courageously and rewarded ourselves with the goal. We wanted to stand compactly, and we did that. It was a step forward. We can build on this performance."
Sebastian Mielitz: "The point means a lot to us. We have now gotten past the little negative streak. I have never lost in Gladbach. Luckily that didn't change."
Assani Lukimya: "It felt like a victory. It was unbelievably important that everyone was there for each other. We really supported one another. Not everything went optimally on defence. It was not a perfect performance. There were a lot of mistakes. But there was always someone there who rushed in at the last second to save the situation."
Nils Petersen: "The 1-1 is a small success after the last three defeats. We showed an entirely different motivation and body language than recently. We had some good order defensively and over long stretches had a man advantage in the midfield and never really let Gladbach get going. At times, it was a real back-and-forth. We gladly take the one point back to Bremen, even though it was a bit lucky with the scene at the end."
