It doesn't matter if it's Oldenburg, Tianjin or Chelsea - Theodor Gebre Selassie was on the pitch for every test match during the summer preparations. The Czech international would certainly have liked to have played some competitive match minutes before an injury stopped him shortly before the start of the season. He's been dealing with a right thigh issue for five weeks. But there's an end in sight.

"I hope that I can be back on the pitch again soon. Unfortunately I cannotsay if it will be in two or three weeks. I'm slowly getting better. I just have to stay patient and take small steps forward," said the 27-year-old.

More time for the family

But ‘Theo' hasn't lost his humour despite the long time off. "Training is a little boring right now. I'm doing the same strength and stabilisation drills every day," he said joking. Looking forward to his weekly MRI, which is designed to control how the rehab develops, Werder's No. 23 had a joke ready. "I have made quite a few friends in the clinic."

Gebre Selassie's injury break does have a positive aspect. "At the moment, I have more time for my family," said ‘Theo', who can spend more time especially with his son Noe. "He's just now starting to get curious.

It's funny to watch, even though it's a 24-hour job," said Gebre Selassie.Even though fatherhood is keeping Werder's midfielder busy, he hasn't missed any of his teammates' matches - even if it's especially nerve-racking. "Iwatched our home match against Hoffenheim in the stadium and the away matches I watch on TV, and I have to admit that it's more stressful than playing yourself. Alone the second half against Leverkusen, I kept jumping up and down and screaming out loud," said the right back. "If we can play against Augsburg like we did in the second half, then it'll certainly be enough for a victory." Regardless how the match turns out, Gebre Selassie will follow the match on TV with his fingers crossed.
