The sports court of the German Football Federation (DFB) suspended Werder left back Santiago Garcia two matches for his red card from the match against Augsburg. The Argentinean also was fined 5,000 euros. "We accept the ruling. Unfortunately, the referee Dingert's wrong perception resulted in the wrong reaction by the player," said Werder head coach Robin Dutt.
Garcia was sent off by referee Christian Dingert with a yellow-red card in stoppage time of the first half of Werder's Bundesliga match at Augsburg. Garcia got in a challenge with Augsburg's Matthias Ostzolek but did not feel he touched Ostzolek. Garcia then bumped Dingert while pleading his case and was disqualified.
Garcia and Werder both accepted the ruling, making it binding. The leftback will miss the Green-Whites' home matches against Borussia Dortmund (Sat 8 Feb. 2014, 3:30 p.m.) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (Sat. 15 Feb 2014, 3:30 p.m.).
