SV Werder Bremen have acquired Spanish centre back Alejandro Galvez as the 24-year-old defensive specialist from Rayo Vallecano from the Spanish Primera Division signed a three-year contract until 30 June 2017. "He is a young, very well trained centre back who has played in the country of the reigning world and European champions and gained a lot of game experience. I am happy that we were able to bring him to Bremen. I am certain that he will help stabilise our team," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin.
The 1.90m defender completed the sports physical with SV Werder a couple weeks ago. The Green-Whites for months have been observing the centre back, who started his professional career with Sporting Gijon. One match day before the end of the season, Galvez and Rayo Vallecano have secured a spot in the middle of the table. "Alejandro has proven in recent months that he can stabilise a defence. He played a major role in Vallecano's good second half. I am looking forward to another option for next season," said head coach Robin Dutt about the addition of the Spaniard.
The Grenada native Galvez debuted in the Primera Division on 15 January 2012 against Malaga and scored a goal in the 2-1 victory over the eventual Champions League participants. Since then, Galvez has established himself in the Spanish top flight with 66 appearances and four goals. Galvez also played eight matches in the Spanish cup Copa del Rey.
