Nils Petersen tried it - and couldn't score. Seconds later, Marko Arnautovic wanted to use the chance - and also could not find the back of the net. The Werder attackers both times were stopped by Greuther Fürth keeper Max Grün, who held his team in the game for a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen. The double chance in the 59th minute was symbolic for SV Werder throughout the game in Fürth. The Green-Whites had many, many chances but were only able to use one of chance in the draw. "We would have shot towards the top of the table with a victory so that's why I am aggravated that we only picked up one point," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs after the game.
WERDER.DE collected further reaction from the mixed zone in Trolli Arena in Fürth.
Thomas Schaaf:
"That was a very intensive match. Both teams absolutely wanted the victory. Unfortunately, Fürth were able to score the first goal. But after that, we were really in the game. I believe that more was possible today but now we have to live with the point. We played really well over long stretches of the match but missed adding a goal. And then it's just not enough for a victory. We faced an opponent today which fought with all their might."
Sebastian Prödl:
"All told, we played a good away match - we can build upon it. It could be that the double chance was the breaking point. After that, our game kind of flattened. We kind of resigned ourselves to fate even though there was still enough time. In the end, one point was not enough. We were the better team and had the better chances. But we could not use them."
Nils Petersen:
"We played a good match today. We created a lot of top quality chances. But when we only use one of 10 good chances, then we have no one to blame but ourselves. But we can build upon this performance because we have lost other similar games. Today we at least picked up one point."
Zlatko Junuzovic:
"It's a very, very mixed feeling. We were clearly the better team and had clearly the better chances. Fürth relied solely on counter attacks. Unfortunately we invited them to shoot once and they were able to use their only chance."
Klaus Allofs: "We certainly were better over long stretches today than we were in Augsburg. But it could have been two more points. We have to learn and get better."
