Werder striker Niclas Füllkrug underwent successful surgery Monday 4 February 2013 on a cartilage injury in his right knee. Dr. Ulrich Boenisch, head of the Hessingpark Clinic in Augsburg, performed the operation.
That means Füllkrug will miss the remainder of the current season. "Niclas will not be available for the rest of the second half. We hope that he will get fit as quickly as possible. We have to wait and see when that will be. We wish him a speedy recovery," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. The 19-year-old Füllkrug has a clear goal in mind. "I am confident that I can be fully ready for the preparations for the new season. I would like to go into my rehab with that goal in mind," said Füllkrug.
Füllkrug, who appeared in 12 Bundesliga matches this season and scored one goal, will return to Bremen in the coming days to start his therapy at the RehaZentrum Bremen.
