Niclas Füllkrug returned to team training Monday afternoon after recovering from his foot problems. The 19-year-old youth striker broke off his participation with the German U20 national team early last week and returned to Bremen. "Now everything is okay, luckily. I am happy that I can be back on the pitch with the team and fully train again," said Füllkrug after his return.
While he missed a week of training, his teammates played test matches in Heiligenfelde and against Dynamo Kiev. Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf and manager Klaus Allofs both said the games were a chance for players to present themselves. But Füllkrug did not regret not being able to play the two tests. "I think when you are injured, the most important thing is to completely heal from your problems. Then you don't need to think about everything you may have missed. I am convinced that I will have enough chances to prove myself," said the Hanover native, who now wants to showcase himself in every practice. "I said before the season that it's my goal to sometime be in the starting line-up this season. Of course I will give everything I have for that and work hard."

As opposed to Füllkrug, many players were not available to Schaaf for the first session of the week. In addition to the internationals, who are expected back on Wednesday, a number of players are working out with the U23 team. Thomas Wolter's team will be playing against Goslarer SC 08 on Wednesday 17 October 2012 at 7 p.m. on the Platz 11 grounds. In addition to Richard Strebinger, Florian Hartherz, Marnon Busch and Felix Kroos, who all regularly play with the U23s, Florian Trinks and Raphael Wolf also took part in training with Werder's second team.

Joseph Akpala meanwhile missed Monday's training after sitting out of the test match against Dynamo Kiev as well. It's unclear when the Nigerian will return to team training. That left just six field players and two keepers on the Weser Stadium training grounds.
