The evening before SV Werder Bremen left Zillertal, head coach Robin Dutt confirmed Clemens Fritz in his post as captain of the Green-Whites. After a wrap-up discussion with his team, Dutt made the announcement. Fritz will enter his fourth season as Werder captain. Fritz's deputy captain will be Sebastian Prödl, who succeeds Aaron Hunt.
"I decided to name the captain myself but I am certain that Clemens also would have been elected by the team. He has a big meaning to the team, is an important contact person for all the players as an intermediary between the coaching staff and the team, and he has a very high social competence. Besides, he also has a good connection between young and old and is an identification figure. He is the ideal captain," said Dutt.
The departure of Hunt meant the post as deputy captain needed to be filled. "I decided on Basti because he has played with Werder for a few years now, has a high standing with the team and is also an important contact partner," reasoned Dutt.
The other three members of the team council were elected by the team itself. In addition to Fritz and Prödl, the five-member body is made up of Zlatko Junuzovic, Nils Petersen and Assani Lukimya.
