Clemens Fritz is one of the most experienced players with Werder Bremen as the Erfurt native arrived in Bremen in summer 2006. This is one of the biggest reasons why Fritz is considered the one of the top candidates to replace the departed Torsten Frings as Werder captain. "For me, it's not even a question. Per (Mertesacker) did a very good job in the past as vice-captain. And I could imagine that he could take over this post," said Fritz.
Regardless of the captain question, Fritz and company have placed their entire concentration on training as they would like to have a better season than last. "We still have high expectations, but we all must be on the same wavelength. Of course we know that it won't be an easy season," said the fullback, who still senses a positive atmosphere in the team despite the intensive work on the island of Norderney. "We know that we are laying the foundation here. That's why we are working very hard and everyone is giving their all," said Fritz.
