The old and new captain for SV Werder Bremen is Clemens Fritz. Head coach Robin Dutt confirmed Fritz's position as part of the final meeting of the team before leaving the training camp in Zillertal.

Fritz will enter his third season as the team leader, taking over in August 2011 from Per Mertesacker, who had moved into the captain spot after Torsten Frings left only to leave himself just weeks later for Arsenal.

There are some familiar faces in the team counsel as well as Fritz will be supported by team-mates Aaron Hunt (deputy captain), Sebastian Prödl, Nils Petersen, Zlatko Junuzovic as well as new acquisition Cedrick Makiadi.

"The team counsel should serve the interests of the players vis-a-vis the coaching staff and club leadership," said Dutt.
