When the floodlights finally went out at Weser Stadium, some LED screens from the stands were still shining light and "Hells Bells" from AC/DC was playing from the speakers. Then the voices of Torsten Frings' daughters Lena-Alina and Lisa-Katharina arose and said: "Hey papa, now it's over. It's time for you to come off!"
It was the emotional highlight of an evening that Torsten Frings fully enjoyed during his farewell match. "When my children came on, it was over for me and I had to cry a little. Of course a lot of emotions came up, especially in front of a full house at Weser Stadium, which I didn't think would happen. I was totally thrilled. It was just a super night and I am overjoyed," said an emotional Frings after his great farewell gala.
His lap of honour, which lasted a quarter-hour with his two daughters, began in front of the west grandstands, over to the north side and then to his curve - the East Curve. "I am unbelievably thankful that so many people came and supported us all. There were some great players there. Every spectator came on his own costs. But it was also a great day for me."
The match between Werder Allstars and Torsten & Friends ended 8-7 and ‘Lutscher' scored two goals. "I told both teams before that I didn't want just a fun time and didn't want any given for free. At the end, they let me through but the topping on the cake was going through Tim Wiese's legs. That was a successful farewell for me," joked Frings.
