Werder Bremen's first test match of the 2012 winter training camp ended in a 2-1 loss against RSC Anderlecht. Some 400 spectators at the Emirhan sports complex Side saw head coach Thomas Schaaf's side have more run of play in the first half before the Belgian league leaders fought back in the second half.

"We did a very, very orderly job in the first half. We played very disciplined and did not allow any goal chances. In attack we created the odd chance, which looked really good," said Schaaf satisfied about the first half. But the coach was less pleased about the second half, saying: "After half-time, we allowed ourselves to get passive and did not move around anymore and made simple errors in ball possession."

The Green-Whites started the game well under perfect football weather and took over the proceedings. In the 34th minute Werder took the lead as a strong Mehmet Ekici played a fine long ball to Markus Rosenberg, who got past an Anderlecht defender and keeper Proto to slide the ball in. "It was a good start for me in 2012," said the Swede after the game. And Bremen led 1-0 at the break.

Werder fell off their game in the second half and gave the opponents too much space. And Schaaf's team conceded their first goal in the 74th minute through Yakovenko to make it 1-1. Mbokani hit the crossbar in the 78th minute and then Anderlecht grabbed the lead 2-1 in the 86th minute on Praet's goal from the right side. Despite the loss, there was positive news from the Werder camp as Mikaël Silvestre celebrated his comeback after a seven-month injury break as the Frenchman was brought on for Lukas Schmitz in the final quarter hour.

SV Werder will take on Dutch club AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Bremen time (3 p.m. in Kundu).
