Werder Bremen added another test match to their summer schedule in the build-up to the Bundesliga kick off on 5-7 August 2011.

The Green-Whites fans can look forward to a real high-level test as Thomas Schaaf's team will take on Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus on Tuesday 26 July 2011 at 7 p.m. The game will be played at the 16,500-seat Vivaris Arena Emsland in Meppen. Ernesto Valverde's team, which includes former Bundesliga striker Marko Pantelic, eased to the Greek title with a 13-point cushion last season and will be spending a few days in Germany during their preparations.

Werder played a test match against the Greeks during the summer preparations in 2004, losing 4-0 in Schruns, Austria. Bremen have also lost twice to Olympiacos in the Champions League, 3-1 on 3 October 2007 at Bremen's Weser Stadium and then 3-0 in Piraeus.
