SV Werder Bremen made the first decisions after the departure of Klaus Allofs to VfL Wolfsburg as Klaus Filbry, Werder's manager of marketing, finances and management for the past three years, was called by the advisory board to become chairman of the board of directors.
"The chairmanship of the board of directors is anchored most sensibly in the business area, and Klaus Filbry pushed Werder ahead strategically in many areas," said advisory board chairman Willi Lemke Friday afternoon. "Klaus Filbry accompanied and continued to develop the renovations of our stadium; created a highly-modern digital infrastructure to strengthen operations; developed Werder Bremen's organisation structure innovatively and in a future-orientated manner; and significantly increased sponsorship earnings," said Lemke. "Therefore, the SV Werder supervisory board intends to prematurely extend the contract with Klaus Filbry until 2017." The 45-year-old Filbry arrived at Werder Bremen in January 2010 from sporting goods manufacturer Adidas. "I am very happy about the major trust of the supervisory board," said Filbry.
Frank Baumann meanwhile will take over with immediate effect the newly-formed function of director of professional football and scouting, which is directly connected to the future manager of professional football. In addition, he will work closely with head coach Thomas Schaaf. The 37-year-old former player and honorary captain Baumann had served since 2010 as an assistant to former manager Klaus Allofs and later as head of scouting. Now, the former German international will have a variety of duties. "Frank Baumann did well in the transition from professional football into management. He is highly respected from within the club. In addition to scouting and working together to plan the roster, he will also work on optimizing the transition from youth performance centres to the professional team as well as deal with the organisation of professional operations and other administrative duties," said Filbry. "I would like to continue to develop step by step, and I see my new duties as a great challenge. And I will go at them with great joy and energy," said Baumann.
