SV Werder Bremen have completed the first stage of their pre-season as they ended their training camp on Norderney on Friday. The Green-Whites had five days of conditioning, coordination, sprint endurance and a test match against SV Meppen On the ferry back to the main land, head coach Thomas Schaaf drew his first conclusions.

"We can be very satisfied with the first days altogether," said the Bremen coach about the camp on the North Sea island. "We worked well and all the players really gave their all. In the game against Meppen we saw that we can communicate certain things. The team received them well and implemented them," praised the 50-year-old. Ekici, Fritz and Co. hope to continue their positive trend in the coming weeks.

"We worked very hard after last season and know that we have no excuse to scream ‘Hurray'. Therefore we want to provide some positive elements again," promised Schaaf. "After all, we all have one goal." The Werder coach believes his team can do quite a lot this season. "Regarding personnel, we are already being punished at this time, and we saw what it means to have important players missing," said Schaaf.

Schaaf also believes his team could be back at Norderney next season. "There is no argument against it right now. Just the opposite. There are plenty of reasons for it. Once again we had good conditions, had an excellent hotel and a nice beach along which you could really run," said the coach. But there is plenty of time before Norderney is an issue again. First the Green-Whites head to Erfurt on Monday before making their way to Donaueschingen for their final training camp.
