Right on time for the first advent of the year, SV Werder Bremen invited their supporters to the eighth Fan Club Christmas Party in the VIP Club East at Weser Stadium. More than 500 representatives of 246 fan clubs spent the eventful Christmas-y afternoon with the players, coaching staff and management.
"We are very happy to be able to be here today. Just like yesterday in the stadium, there is a great atmosphere here. Without the fans, there would be no football and we play football for our fans," said head coach Viktor Skripnik.
Clemens Fritz used the opportunity to thank the fans on behalf of the team. "Before we come over to you at the tables, we would like thank you for the fantastic support over the last few weeks and months. We know that it can't be taken for granted that you stay behind us in these tough times. We all really appreciate that a lot," said the captain.
Di Santo, Bartels, Selke and Co. went to the tables of the fan clubs to talk about anything that came up - to the delight of the supporters. "I have been a Werder fan for 25 years and am participating today for the first time and am totally excited. The players are very nice and it's easy to talk to them. The Christmas party proved to be what it promised - up close and personal with the players. It was worth it to get up and leave at 5:30 a.m. and drive the 500 kilometres," said May Dietmar from the fan club Werra Bremen from Hildburghausen in southern Thuringia.
The finale of the afternoon was a collective singing of Christmas songs, headed by Tjalf Hoyer, ambassador of the WERDER BEWEGT support group and singer of the band Afterburner. In addition to Christmas songs, they also sang the Werder hymn "Lebenslang Grün-Weiß" ("Life-long Green-White").
