When SV Werder take on FC Chelsea later this evening, it will be the crowning conclusion to the Day of the Fans 2014. But before the big test match against the Blues, the Werder fans could expect a major spectacle around Weser Stadium. Ranging from participatory events such as autograph hours to round table talks with former players, the Day of the Fans offers a colourful side program. WERDER.DE mingled with the fans during the event.
The events will definitely stay in the memories of Helmut, 50, and his son Helmut Jr., 12, from the Dominican Republic. "I never miss a Werder match. Usually I can only see the matches over the internet," said Helmut Jr., who couldn't hide the excitement of watching his first Werder home match live.
The fact that SV Werder have a place in the two's hearts can be seen by the events surrounding their visit. "We are taking a month-long holiday in Europe and were in Munich yesterday. My son saw yesterday that today is Day of the Fans and Werder were playing against Chelsea. So we changed all of our plans so that we could be in Bremen today," said the father.
Jörg, 42, from Brake:
Jörg: "I am here with my crew for the fourth time at Day of the Fans. We have our Werder mobile with us every time, whether it's the Bundesliga, the DFB German Cup or Day of the Fans. When it comes to SV Werder, we take part in everything."
Lukas, 17, and Marie-Luise, 53, from Bonn:
Lukas: "For me, it's my first Day of the Fans. I just took a picture with Torsten Frings. That was a super feeling for me as a fan. It was worth it to queue for a while."
Both: "The expectations we had for today were by far surpassed. It's just a super atmosphere and it's impressive being close to the players."
Daniel, 29, Ricarda, 25, and Johannes, 27, from Gladbeck:Everyone: "We have wanted to come up here for years. Until now it never worked out, but this time we're here. Hopefully we will see a good match and Werder will win 3-1 against Chelsea."
Kim-Michelle, 18, from Bremen
Kim-Michelle:"All of this is indescribable. I cannot believe that Ivan Klasnic just sold me a scarf. He used to be my favourite player. Actually he could play another one or two more years for us."
