When the dust settled it was a 4-1 defeat. Consistency? Negative! "This is a loss we experience every other week. It seems like every good match is followed by a bad one. We don't have the consistency," said Nils Petersen, who scored to temporarily equalize the match at 1-1. The only consistent thing about Werder is that they bounce back and forth between victories and defeats week for week and month for month. After the 4-1 win in Hoffenheim, the Green-Whites suffered another letdown.
WERDER.DE collected the reaction after the match:
Clemens Fritz: "That was an unnecessary defeat. If you look at the run of the game, we stood very well on defence and had two excellent chances which we must take advantage of. After falling behind 1-0, we come back, but then the game was decided with the double-strike. We are just making too simple of mistakes."
Thomas Schaaf: "The 4-1 is a pretty clear result. But my team played a good match. They only had one problem, they didn't use their chances. Frankfurt on the other hand did. We attacked them early and had super chances - were free in front of the goal. We were asleep on the 1-0 goal for them."
Sebastian Prödl: "We felt too certain after the first 45 minutes that we could collect points in Frankfurt. In the first half we stood well, had strong counter attacks and played our game. Their goal in the second half came very early. Then we didn't convert our chances on offence and gave them too many opportunities on defence. We played well over the 90 minutes but messed up picking up points here."
Nils Petersen: "We came here full of confidence after the 4-1 win in Hoffenheim. We also knew that Eintracht deserved respect. Their goals were scored too easily. We just cannot pick up points away with one goal. We have only gained eight points away from home. That is not enough."
