Eljero Elia scored the game-winning goal for SV Werder in their 1-0 test match victory over FC Aberdeen, hitting his third goal of the current preparations. But Elia has not just gotten praise for his goal scoring. "In the first weeks, he has already hinted what he can do," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.

And the 25-year-old was also praised by manager Klaus Allofs. "Eljero wants to show again what he can do. We noticed that in our talks with him and we also see it on the pitch. The fact that he is scoring gives him additional security and improves his entire well-being," said Allofs. "If he performs as he has in the previous games, then he can be a very important player for us."

For Elia himself the test matches are mainly there to get him "absolutely fit". He's happy about scoring goals but is not euphoric about it. "Of course it does you good but what counts are the goals in the Bundesliga and the German DFB Cup. That's when it matters," said Elia. But the 25-year-old could see the club get even more offensive reinforcements. Kevin de Bruyne could be transferring from Chelsea to Werder. "The signals for a transfer appear good. We talked to the player, the agent and Chelsea but it's not yet set. The final decision still must be made," said Allofs at the test match against FC Aberdeen.
