SV Werder players and management breathed a sigh of relief as Bremen's Dutch international Eljero Elia suffered only a minor foot injury at Tuesday morning's training. Elia went down after a challenge with defender Assani Lukimya. "It's only half as bad as it looked. He has a slightly bruised foot. The fact that he did not train in the afternoon was solely a precautionary measure," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf.
Elia was able to continue training shortly after the challenge. The winger was later brought to Werder team doctor Götz Dimanski's practice for further examinations. As of now, the 26-year-old should be available against Hamburg in the North Derby.
