Eljero Elia was fit again right on time for the start of the Bundesliga as the Dutchman returned to team training after missing a week with a grippe infection. "At the beginning of the week, it didn't look like he would be able to play. He was able to do everything today. Now we have to see how he handles the burden," said head coach Robin Dutt ahead of the match on Saturday at Eintracht Braunschweig.
Dutt did not say what role the midfielder could play in Braunschweig. "He is not far enough to play a full 90 minutes. But he could be important if he comes off the bench. Still, we have a big roster with a lot of people working hard. You certainly cannot just throw in there any player who missed 10 days. But Elli really had a strong preparation," said the coach.
Marko Arnautovic is also getting closer and closer to the starting line-up. "If his positive development continues then he could be a candidate for a full 90 minutes in two or three weeks. But there are phases for players in which things don't always go well and they struggle to overcome certain hurdles. The most important thing for me is that Marko is accepting his situation very well. He is really showing a lot of desire. He is ready to do extra duty and accepts a role from the bench," said Dutt.
