Mehmet Ekici will not be available to SV Werder Bremen for the rest of the season as the Turkish international underwent successful groin surgery Wednesday morning 4 April 2012 by Dr. Jens Krüger in Berlin. Ekici will leave the clinic at the end of the week and undergo out-patient therapy.
"The operation was necessary because more and more scar tissue had built up as a consequence of an operation on both groins in 2010 when Ekici was under contract with Bayern," said manager Klaus Allofs on Thursday.
It's unclear how long the 22-year-old will be out. Certain, however, is that he will not be available to SV Werder for the rest of the season. "Since it has to do with a non-everyday and complicated constellation, any comment about rehab time is pure speculation. It's certain though that it will take clearly longer than a non-complicated groin operation of six weeks," said Werder doctor Götz Dimanski.
