DFB director of sports Robin Dutt came by for SV Werder training on Wednesday, talking with head coach Thomas Schaaf and meeting afterwards with manager Thomas Eichin and Bremen director of professional football and scouting Frank Baumann.
"It was a very interesting exchange of ideas about a variety of topics. We talked about the relationship between federation and clubs and visited the youth performance centre," said Eichin.
Dutt said he was impressed with the Green-Whites' talent academy, which received the best-possible three-star certification from the German Football Federation DFB. "Werder have stood for good youth work for years and for a good partnership. We talked today about continuing the way they are going in the youth department," said Dutt after the meeting. Dutt is convinced that Werder's youth concept will sooner or later pay off in performance at the professional level. "Werder will once again play up near the top. With Thomas Schaaf, they have an excellent coach who knows how to bring Werder back into calmer waters," said Dutt.
There were also other topics of discussion with Schaaf for Dutt, who took over in August 2012 as the successor to Matthias Sammer. "It was his inaugural visit as DFB director of sports in Bremen. He wanted to check things out and sought out the communication. It's all about a successful, collective collaboration," said Schaaf, who talked to Dutt during the morning training.
