The health status of Aaron Hunt remains unchanged. Werder head coach Robin Dutt told the official press conference Thursday that he doesn't need to look just "day to day" if Hunt can play but even "night to night" as well. What will Dutt do if the deputy captain cannot play on Sunday against Braunschweig because of his flu bug? The possible "painful absence" would not worry him too much. The 48-year-old coach said he has a "Plan B, B1 and B2" for the worst case scenario.
Dutt naturally did not want to disclose how the starting formation could look on Sunday if Hunt cannot make it back in time. But he did say: "Naturally we hope that Aaron can play on Sunday. If not, then maybe there will be a surprise." He added: "I can think of three players about whom I would have a good feeling and five who would be a risk."
One of the three candidates according to Dutt would definitely by Zlatko Junuzovic, given that the Austrian can use the final two trainings to get back to 100 percent fitness. Mehmet Ekici is also among the candidates. While the midfielder could not really go after it at the training camp because he was injured, Dutt still is convinced of Ekici's abilities as playmaker.
Whether it's Junuzovic, Ekici, an entirely different player or even a healthy Hunt - in the end, the result of the first match of the second half has the highest priority. "If a very important player like Aaron were to miss the game, then we have a large enough squad to make up for the loss as a team," said Werder striker Nils Petersen.
