German Football Federation director of sports Robin Dutt and SV Werder Bremen inquired with the DFB on Thursday to request the cancelation of Dutt's current contract until the end of 2016. Due to the importance of the position, the DFB presidium will meet this week to discuss a possible release.
Dutt informed the DFB officially in the morning about his desire to once again work as a Bundesliga coach. Afterwards, the SV Werder Bremen management asked DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach and DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock in a telephone conversation for the release.
"We hope very much that a release is given by the DFB. We had very good talks with Robin Dutt. He is the choice candidate for the coaching post. He fulfills all of the criteria we have for a new start. He knows the youth system very well, has good experience in developing talent and has already shown in the Bundesliga that he can succeed," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin on Thursday.
Prior to becoming the DFB director of sports, Dutt worked for SC Freiburg from 2007 to 2011, taking over as successor to the long-time coach Volker Finke and leading them back into the Bundesliga. After that he moved to Bayer Leverkusen, coaching them during the 2011-12 season.
