It was only a few moments but they were enough for Robin Dutt to form a more exact opinion of Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso and his training work. In spring this year, the Argentinean began his football coaching traineeship with the German Football Federation, where Werder's current head coach had the post of DFB director of sports. Dutt was there when Cardoso had to take a coaching aptitude test before starting his apprenticeship. "I observed him in the spring at the DFB. He revealed to me there a little about what he intends to do," joked Dutt when asked about the coaches' recent past together at the official press conference before the North Derby between Hamburg and Werder.
Even though Dutt says it's nothing, that could be a small advantage when the Werder coach and Hamburg's interim boss face off with their teams this Saturday. Save for the short time at the DFB, the coaches' paths have not really crossed very often. "We know each other. We also went out for coffee once. But we are not friends and do not call each other on the telephone. Still, we respect one another," said Dutt about the relationship with Cardoso.
Fink sacked - Werder discontinues video analysis
After sacking Thorsten Fink, the club bosses at Hamburg are still looking for a new coach with Cardoso, the current coach of Hamburg's U23 team, considered only a transitional solution. "The question is not what Hamburg will do. We have to ask ourselves what we have to do in order to get points," said Dutt. The sacking of Fink last Monday did have one impact on the Bremen coach's work. "We have discontinued our video analysis. We cannot know what tactics Hamburg will use. It really makes no sense to make considerations in this area this week. That will leave more time to talk to the players after the 3-0 loss to Frankfurt," said the 48-year-old coach. "If we win the game the earth will not be turning faster afterwards."
