First of all he celebrated his Champions League debut in the away match in Tottenham and a couple days later against St. Pauli Dominik Schmidt was in Werder Bremen’s starting line-up in the Bundesliga for the first time. That’s a strange order for one to make two debuts. The Berlin native is one of the real winners among the Bremen ranks in the first half of the 2010-11 season, which did not really offer Green-White fans that many highlights. “For me personally things have gone quite well,” said the 23-year-old in an exclusive interview with WERDER.TV looking back on some special moments for him. “I worked my way into the team with the Tottenham game and I am happy about every minute that I can play.” Minutes of action have turned into hours as the fall was special for Dominik Schmidt.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf called Schmidt “a good example” in how players should use their chance. “You have to have patience to get into the kind of situation where things don’t go so well and then you are not with the team,” said the coach. “Dominik used the situation – in a very good manner.”
Schmidt is not worried about what will happen to him at the start of the second half when some injured players return. “I just have to continue to perform and give my all in training,” said Schmidt, not shying away from internal competition. “The competition can only help the team and make things more lively,” said Schmidt, who wouldn’t have anything against being a starter next year. “But the coach decides that.”
