A day later, most everything looks a lot different. And that was the case with Franco Di Santo a few hours after his return to the pitch for the test match in Duisburg. After going through mixed emotions Monday evening with the defeat but also the happiness of a problem-free return after missing two months, the Argentinean gave a clear thumb's up on Tuesday.
The positive things outweighed the negative ones after the running session and ensuing physiotherapist treatment in the afternoon. "I don't have any more pain. Everything looks good. The match in Duisburg helped me to get confidence again in my body and find my rhythm," said Di Santo. The striker said the 3-1 loss is "something that can happen over the course of preparations". And he is optimistic looking ahead to the coming weeks.
The fact that the healing process for Werder's top scorer went quickly and without complication was not only the product of the good medical attention the striker received but also his own discipline. Di Santo used his Christmas holiday in Argentina perfectly to speed up his return to the pitch. Right after the diagnosis, he promised to do everything he could to get back as quickly as possible. "I did that in Argentina too," said Di Santo.
And that helped the striker to keep his own promise nine weeks after injuring a ligament in his right knee. The new goal for Di Santo is to be fit in time for the start of the second half. He said he doesn't feel 100 percent fit yet but he hopes to be there by the home match on 1 February 2015 at 3:30 p.m. against Hertha Berlin. At the moment, there is no doubt that he will achieve this goal as well.
