The sports court of the German Football Federation (DFB) Monday afternoon suspended Werder striker Franco Di Santo for three Bundesliga matches for his red card in the match against Eintracht Frankfurt. Werder Bremen and Di Santo have accepted the ruling by Hans E. Lorenz, chairman of the sports court.
"That looked pretty bad, but Franco only saw the ball. He had absolutely no intention in the action. That's why we tried to have the penalty reduced but now we have to accept the ruling," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin about the ruling.
Di Santo was sent off the pitch by referee Dr. Felix Brych last Saturday in the match against Frankfurt for his foul in the 26th minute on opponent Bastian Oczipka. The Argentinean will therefore miss the Bunesliga matches at Hamburg, against Nuremberg and at VfB Stuttgart. The 24-year-old is eligible to play again on Saturday 19 October 2013 at 3:30 p.m.
