With his goal to give Werder Bremen a 1-0 lead at Nuremberg, Franco Di Santo helped Bremen to their second straight victory. For the Argentinean, it was his second Bundesliga goal. The 24-year-old was more dangerous than ever this season in the Nuremberg match.
That was a good reason for WERDER.DE to have a longer interview with Di Santo.
WERDER.DE: For a while now your mom is visiting you from Argentina. How was it seeing her again? How important is it for you that your family is near you?
Franco Di Santo: "It is very, very important to me. I am always a positive guy. But when family comes, so people who share the same culture and same language and on top of that it's also my mother who has never been to Germany and whom I haven't seen in a long time, there is nothing better. My mother gives me another push of energy. I am just happier with everything. That could be a positive for Werder."
WERDER.DE: How long is your mother staying and what do you have planned in the coming days?
Franco Di Santo: "She is staying until almost the end of the season. I would like to show her Germany on my off days. We want to travel to Berlin and Munich. In Munich, we plan on visiting Claudio Pizarro. I have a good relationship with him. We know each other from our time together with Chelsea. He often invited me and my family to his place. Maybe our families will see each other again soon!"
WERDER.DE: What are you doing starting on 12 June?
Franco Di Santo: "I hope that I am at least sitting on the bench at the World Cup in Brazil."
WERDER.DE: Recently it's been reported that you may actually make the World Cup roster. Argentinean national team coach Alejandro Sabella is planning a tour of Europe. He also wants to observe you. Is there contact to him at the moment?
Franco Di Santo: "I know that Sabella was planning an observation tour and is flying around half of Europe. It's no secret that I was observed for the national team in Nuremberg. I am satisfied that I had a good game there with a goal. But I don't know anything more than that."
WERDER.DE: Santi Garcia and you playing for the "Albiceleste" at the World Cup - that would be great, no?
Franco Di Santo: (laughs) "Of course, that would be a dream. It wouldn't be good for just us but also for Werder if we were both in Brazil."
WERDER.DE: How important is it for you that ‘Santi' is also playing with SV Werder? How would you describe your relationship with him?
Franco Di Santo: "It's very important for me. We help each other every day in all possible situations. I am more the fun guy who wants to joke around and Santi is more the quiet guy. That is a damn good mix."
WERDER.DE: Damn good mix? That is also a good description for the performances of the team in the last few matches because the mix of defence and offence is working better and better. Will that be a key to the hopes for a win against Stuttgart on Saturday?
Franco Di Santo: "Yeah absolutely. We have been playing somewhat more defence orientated since the Gladbach game. But we are not neglecting the offence. We will also have our chances against Stuttgart. We have a big chance to pull a bit further away from the bottom spots. We do not want to waste this opportunity."
