Franco Di Santo has been impressive over the past few weeks. That made it all the worse that he missed the away match against Mainz 05. And it makes it all the better that the striker will return to the Werder roster for the showdown against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim after sitting out his yellow card suspension.
A look at the statistics shows just how strong the Argentinean was before being forced to miss the match. Di Santo scored against both Schalke and Hannover and played a big role in the Green-Whites' good performances. Add his goal in the 2-0 win over Nuremberg and the Argentinean leads SV Werder in scoring in the second half.
That's yet another reason for head coach Robin Dutt to be happy that the striker will return on Saturday. "Franco is very important for us. He had been in very good form and scored in two straight games. So we are very happy that he will be back for us against Hoffenheim," said Dutt at the official press conference on Thursday.
For the coach, it's more than his scoring ability that makes the 25-year-old Di Santo an important part of the team. "Franco brings quickness to our game, can cause problems in front of the opposing goal with his dynamism and presence and holds the ball well up front. The latter helps a lot for the team to push forward," said Dutt.
Hoffenheim's defensive ranks can look forward to a long afternoon of work because both Di Santo and the Werder fans are looking forward to the Argentinean's fifth goal of the season.
