The league association of the 36 professional clubs declared their lack of understanding about the approval of a new law by the Bremen parliament which states that the costs for police deployment for risky matches can be imposed on the organizers.
"After the signals beforehand, this outcome did not surprise us. The Bremen law does not solve the problems but only should plug the holes in their budgets. We persist that it's not categorically consistent according to our understanding. If the league association receives a bill of costs from Bremen, we will definitely begin judicial proceedings against that and pass on the costs to SV Werder Bremen," said league president Dr. Reinhard Rauball.
The league association regrets especially that the state of Bremen ignored both the appeal of the organised sport as well as the position of the other federal states and the interior ministers, who spoke out against the Bremen initiative previous to the decision. The Bremen parliament also did not acknowledge the football measures for prevention and clarification of perpetrators which was approved at the interior minister conference.
"With the charge, the costs for police deployments will not be lowered. But that should be the goal. Therefore we will continue our collective efforts to go in this direction," added Dr. Rauball.
