Werder Bremen will face off against third division side Preussen Münster in the first round of this season's German DFB Cup. Head coach Thomas Schaaf's team will play the match between 17-20 August 2012. The exact schedule will follow in the coming days.

Schaaf reacted favourably to the draw. "It will be an interesting match. Preussen Münster is a traditional team which has played a lot of good matches. And they have a great atmosphere there. We are looking forward to the match and have the goal of qualifying for the second round," said Schaaf.

Defender Sebastian Prödl was also happy about the draw. "This is a nice pairing. Due to the proximity to Bremen, a lot of Werder fans will come to the match to start our season more successfully than last year," said Prödl. The match in Münster could be the first competitive match for new acquisition Assani Lukimya, who added: "Every cup match has its own character. This is a promising draw and we can only win there with the correct attitude."

The second round will take place on 30-31 October 2012 with the Round of 16 planned for 18-19 December 2012. The quarter-finals are 26-27 February 2013 with the semi-finals on 16-17 April 2013 and the final on 1 June 2013 in Berlin.
