Just one week after the furious and emotional North Derby against Hamburg, the next showdown for supremacy in northern Germany is up as SV Werder will take on Hannover 96 on Friday evening 1 February 2013. While the showdown is billed as the "Small North Derby", the match-up has turned into a real battle in the last decade. And Friday's game will be a true anniversary as the Green-Whites and Hannover 96 square off for the 50th time in the Bundesliga. Werder left the pitch 25 times as winners while Hannover won 11 times.
WERDER.DE compiled all the interesting statistics about the showdown against Hannover.
Did you know ...
... that Werder are kind of like Hannover's bogeyman in the Bundesliga? With just 11 victories, 13 draws and 25 losses in 49 match-ups, Hannover's record against Bremen is the second worst against another Bundesliga team. The only team against whom they have lost more often is Bayern Munich (30 defeats).
... that Hannover have not won at Weser Stadium in nearly 10 years? In this time, Hannover have collected three draws and six defeats. The last Hannover win in Bremen goes back to the 2-1 victory in March 2003. The nine-game winless streak is the longest streak for Hannover in the Bundesliga.
... that the club have lost their last four away matches? It's not a coincidence as the Reds have lost 13 of their last 15 away contests - with only two victories.
... that Werder have not won any of their last seven Friday matches? Bremen have lost both of their Friday contests this season and altogether have five losses and two draws in their last seven Friday games. Werder's last victory on Friday night came on 5 February 2010 with a 2-1 win against Hertha Berlin.
... that both players have two players who are missing? For Werder, both captain Clemens Fritz and Marko Arnautovic will miss the game due to yellow-red cards from the Hamburg match. The Reds will not have Sebastian Pocognoli, who saw a red card in his debut, and new acquisition Andre Hoffmann, who picked up his fifth yellow last weekend after four warnings with his former club Duisburg.
