At the latest by the time the Werder fans pulled out the banner "Everything for the derby win" during the away match in Frankfurt, it was clear to everyone just how important this weekend's big North Derby is. Werder and Hamburg will face off for the 100th time and of course Weser Stadium is sold out.
"Me being new in Bremen realised after the first match this season how important the derby is for the fans, the club and the surroundings and how emotional this showdown is. Everybody is looking forward to it. This derby is an important match. On the one side because it has a very emotional meaning, and on the other hand it's extremely important because of the situation in the standings," said head coach Robin Dutt.
Werder manager Thomas Eichin added: "It is always a special match for us, for the fans and the city of Bremen. There's a lot riding on it. We have to go into the match with a controlled aggressiveness. We have to keep our nerves in check, and we will do that. We will go into this game just as sharp as we did in Frankfurt."
Zlatko Junuzovic warned the team ahead Saturday's match against the opponents, who apparently have new life with new coach Mirko Slomka. The goals from Jiracek, Lasogga and Calhanoglu have made a big impression along the Weser. "Hamburg came up with a surprising win against Dortmund. Half of the team was changed after the coaching change. This will be an entirely new HSV team that we play against. For the fans, it's the match of the year. And we know there is nothing more important than this derby," said Junuzovic. Franco Di Santo also knows of the importance of the encounter, saying: "The fans give us the feeling that this match is very important. You can sense throughout Bremen how much they are looking forward to it. We will give everything we have to not disappoint our fans."
