Merhaba Belek" turned into "Hola Jerez" Wednesday morning for the first time in Werder's training camp history. After preparing for the second half of the season 12 times along the Turkish Riviera in the past, Werder headed to south-western Spain for the first time this winter. Flight number HK 8436 departed Bremen with about a 20-minute delay at 9:20 a.m.

"I am looking forward to Spain. Werder were very often in Turkey in the last few years. The last second half didn't go so rosy, so maybe it will be good to pitch our tents somewhere else," said Nils Petersen shortly before checking in at the terminal in Bremen.

The Green-Whites also have two interesting test matches to look forward to in the next 10 days. They will first take on Dutch top flight side NEC Nijmegen on Sunday 12 January 2014 at 3:30 p.m. on the hotel's training grounds. Four days later on Thursday 16 January 2014, Bremen play Romanian record champions Steaua Bucharest at Estadio Algeciras at 6 p.m. "They are two good teams for us. I hope that we can use both games to look forward to the match against Braunschweig," said Aaron Hunt about Bremen's two opponents. "We have two really good test match opponents. We can try out a lot of things," added Petersen.

It's unclear if the currently injured Clemens Fritz (hip pointer muscular problems) and currently sick Lukas Schmitz (cold infection) will be available for the test matches. That will be decided after the first days of the training camp. That means Luca-Milan Zander could get some playing time. The 18-year-old right back, who is currently playing for Werder's U19s, was nominated shortly before the team was leaving for Spain to give the team 20 fit field players for training in Jerez.
