It finally happened for Florian Trinks in the 67th minute with the score knotted at 1-1 as the 18-year-old youth player was subbed in for Marko Marin, celebrating his Bundesliga debut. The fact that Werder ended up losing 3-1 against Bayern Munich did not have to do with the blonde-haired offensive player. "I certainly expected something different at the end of my first game. But I tried everything and gave my best. I hope that the coach was at least half-way satisfied with my performance," said Trinks.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf told Trinks shortly before being subbed in that he should "have fun". But Trinks had to be really aggravated with his first scene, which was "possibly decisive in the game" manager Klaus Allofs said later. Trinks crossed into the Bayern area and Munich's Luiz Gustavo appeared to have handled the ball with what Allofs called "fist defence". But referee Thorsten Kinhöfer refused to blow the whistle.
"In the end we didn't have anything left to resist," said Trinks, who said he didn't sense any excitement before his substitution. "Even if people believe me or not, I wasn't nervous at all. I was thinking more about it on Friday when I learned that I would be on the game squad. I had worked 13 hard years for that."
