Following Joseph Akpala and Raphael Wolf, Kevin De Bruyne is the next Werder player to get injured during training. The Belgian left training Wednesday with pain in his knee.
But as opposed to his two teammates, De Bruyne's injury does not appear to be as serious. "Kevin has problems with his patella tendon. The pain has slowed him down a bit the last couple of weeks. Today he had to leave the pitch injured because the knee hurt too much," said head coach Thomas Schaaf Wednesday. It's not yet clear how long the Belgian may be out of action. "We have to wait and see about the results of the examinations and then if he can train tomorrow or the day after. I hope that he is available on the weekend," said the Werder coach.
The coach was able to greet a new face on the training grounds though as U23 striker Max Wegner took part in professional training. "Unfortunately he only just recently returned from a meniscus injury so he's not an option. We still need to build him up a bit," said Schaaf about Wegner, who missed half a year injured.
