Scoring the important early goal himself and setting up the second goal - it was a perfect afternoon for Davie Selke. And the 19-year-old was rightfully so beaming after the 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. "That was a very emotional match. I am unbelievably happy that we won," said the former U23 striker, who played a huge role in the win.
For a footballer, there's nothing better than looking on as your own shot goes into the goal. Selke let the 40,000 spectators in the sold-out Weser Stadium share in the feeling. The match winner found himself one-on-one against Dortmund keeper Mitchell Langerak already in the third minute. "The ball came in good and I just took it like that. It's even greater that it went in so beautifully right and up top. It was a phenomenal feeling," Selke told the waiting journalists after the match.
Selke scored in the third home match in a row for four goals this season, evening him with Fin Bartels as the second best scorer for the Green-Whites. "I absolutely want to pay back the trust that the coach has given me. The best way to do that is with goals," said the striker.
Selke received special praise from his striking partner especially because of his assisting on the second goal. The 1.91 meter striker first got past Dortmund's world champion defender Mats Hummels and then spotted Bartels racing towards the goal. "It was amazing how Davie set up the goal. All I had to do was push it in," described Bartels. The youngster's performance in total was more than impressive. "Davie was outstanding today," added Bartels.
