Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs was also satisfied after the contract extension with his young keeper. "It's nice that Sebastian prematurely extended his contract with us. He did a great job last year. We believe in his development," said Allofs. Head coach Thomas Schaaf added: "We are happy that Miele would like to continue his way with us. He has shown that he developed and we want to continue to push him on a daily basis."
'Miele' has played with Werder's U23s since 2007 and trained regularly with the professionals in the past season. Due to injuries and a suspension to top keeper Tim Wiese, Mielitz was very successful in six Bundesliga matches, two Champions League appearances and one German Cup contest. The young keeper played a total of 684 minutes during the 2010-11 season.
Mielitz transferred to Werder Bremen in 2005 from Energie Cottbus and pushed his way through the B and A junior Green-Whites. In 2007, he was North German champion with the U19 team and he played at the 2009 U20 World Cup with Germany in Egypt. Mielitz already won titles as a schoolboy in both Cottbus and Bremen.
