Niclas Füllkrug signed a professional contract with SV Werder Bremen on his 19th birthday, thereby extending his association with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2015. Werder manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the deal Thursday evening.
Füllkrug played his way into the focus of head coach Thomas Schaaf during the winter preparations and then made his Bundesliga debut in the last home match against Bayer Leverkusen. And Werder have now locked him up for the long term. "We are happy to give another talented player the opportunity to continue his development with us. We are convinced that Niclas has the potential to break through," said manager Klaus Allofs. Schaaf also thinks highly of the 19-year-old. "He is one of the young players who has really pushed their way forward recently. I am happy that he has accepted the challenge," said Schaaf.
The Hannover native German youth international has been active with Werder Bremen since the U17 age group. In addition to 27 matches in the A-juniors Bundesliga, Füllkrug has developed into a starter with the third division team, playing 20 games there. In October 2011, Füllkrug was named the Player of the Month for the third division.
