Only 20 points from 20 matches - manager Thomas Eichin and head coach Robin Dutt were both aware from the beginning that this season would be difficult for SV Werder Bremen. The cushion from a direct relegation spot is not that big. But Dutt is certain that the team will master the precarious situation and turn their season around. The coach is counting on the team and the Bremen surroundings sticking together.

"We are not satisfied with the entire situation. That includes all areas. But we are tackling this situation as a team. Staying together is our number one priority, the ‘We are Werder Bremen' feeling is atop our list," said the coach. Despite the critical statements, Dutt showed understanding for his players. "The criticism in Bremen in this difficult situation is absolutely reasonable. It is explicit but the players are not being insulted and it's not going under the belt," said the coach.

The plan is to build up the team's confidence for the coming tasks in high intensity training sessions at Weser Stadium. Symbolic for the daily battle against relegation, Franco Di Santo picked up a bloody nose during Tuesday afternoon's training.

"Franco got an elbow in the face in training and went to physio Holger Berger with a bloody nose. When we wanted to swap him out for another player, he just said, everything is okay and went back in. That shows that there's some toughness in training," Dutt said of the current training situation.

Werder hope to lay the foundation for the swing in momentum with will, aggressiveness and togetherness as a trump card - starting with their home game on Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach (3:30 p.m.).
