The SV Werder coaching staff signed new contracts Thursday afternoon fitting for the Bundesliga while head coach Viktor Skripnik and assistant Torsten Frings inked three-year deals until 30 June 2017. Assistant coach Florian Kohfeldt and goalkeeper coach Christian Vander signed unlimited contracts which were also re-worked for the Bundesliga. All four coaches had been with the U23 team. The contract for athletics coach Reinhard Schnittker, who has worked with various teams within the club since 2012, remained unchanged.
Werder's manager of sport Thomas Eichin was pleased with the successful completion of the talks. "They were very goal-orientated negotiations which we finished off quickly. I am certain that we are very well set with this coaching team. Now we can look forward together and we want to master the challenges of the coming years. Everybody in the club will do everything they can to support the coaching team," said Eichin.
"We are happy that we received this confidence. We are connected by a major identification with the club. We will do everything we can to be successful again. We want to get out of the relegation battle as quickly as possible and continue to develop the team," said Skripnik after signing the deal.
The coaching team moved up from the U23s to take over the Green-Whites' Bundesliga squad at the end of October. In addition to advancing in the German DFB Cup, the coaching staff guided Werder to two wins in their first three Bundesliga matches. Skripnik, who played for Werder from 1996 to 2004, has coached SVW youth teams since the end of this active playing career. Kohfeldt and Frings are currently going through a coaching traineeship and were also part of the U23 coaching staff along with Vander.
