It will be a very special "class reunion". Upon invitation from SV Werder Bremen, many of the players from the 1988 title-winning team will come together at Weser Stadium on Saturday to commemorate their championship from 25 years earlier. Former captain Mirko Votava, keeper Oliver Reck, Rune Bratseth, Frank Ordenewitz and championship coach Otto Rehhagel are just some of the celebrity faces who will be on hand Saturday for the important match against TSG Hoffenheim and crossing their fingers in a VIP box together.
Afterwards, the group will take a shuttle bus to a Bremen restaurant for a cosy Werder evening with lots of great memories. "This title meant the most to me of all of them. Along with Karl-Heinz Riedle, I played the most matches, I was only suspended one time. And the season finished perfect for us by setting the Bundesliga record for conceding only 22 goals," said former sweeper Gunnar Sauer in a special edition of WERDER MAGAZIN.
The fans plan on showing their heroes from 1988 that they are not forgotten with a special choreography before the match. It shall be a recollection of the title 25 years ago and also reference the current situation. The fans did not want to give away any more details.
