The Werder players have headed off to their Christmas break with an important home 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund last Saturday. Before head coach Viktor Skripnik's team once again go at it next year, they can look forward to some quiet and relaxing Christmas days with their families.
WERDER.DE asked around to see how the families of Skripnik, Bartels, Di Santo and Co. will be celebrating Christmas eve.
Viktor Skripnik: "In my home land, the traditional days to celebrate are January 5 and 6. But since we live in Germany, of course we celebrate Christmas eve with good friends. It's always a lot of fun when the kids get their Christmas stockings and presents. The food is also typical German. Usually we head to Ukraine after that because New Year's Eve is a big celebration and then there are the holidays. But this year I will stay in Germany with my family because of the touchy situation in my homeland.
Fin Bartels: "I traditionally celebrate Christmas with family. I will be with my parents and my grandma will cook something big. Afterwards we will sit around together, open the presents and play together. That's how Christmas is for us."
Franco Di Santo and Santiago Garcia: "We are flying to our families in Argentina. There is a big, delicious steak and we are already looking forward to it. Everyone just sits around a big table and has a bunch to talk about - typical Argentinian."
Philipp Bargfrede: "We will celebrate with my in-laws in Sittensen. My mother-in-law is cooking. There's no special meal, but she will certainly come up with something delicious just like every year. For sure it won't just be potato salad and sausage but something good. (laughs)."
