SV Werder Bremen will travel to China for a week-long trip during the preparations for the 2014-15 season. Two friendly matches against teams from the Chinese Super League are planned as part of the tour from 30 June to 6 July 2014.

Werder's Asian tour is being supported in collaboration with a Chinese marketing agency along with Volkswagen and the German Football League. Werder's LED banner partner Turkish Airlines, who has been with the club since the beginning of the second half, will accompany the trip as "OFFICIAL AIRLINE - WERDER BREMEN CHINA TOUR 2014".

About the trip, Werder management chairman Klaus Filbry said: "Sports-wise, experiencing new impressions together at the beginning of the preparations will certainly bring the team together. Economically, it's lucrative for Werder. We have the possibility to open doors there and make new contacts." Tentative plans include the team visiting the German embassy in Beijing and various companies or taking part in a collective football expert talk about the on-going World Cup matches.

"Werder is an attractive brand which will present itself to an attractive market with this trip. This is not only an interesting constellation for us. We are also holding talks at the moment with many other interested representatives from the economic and political worlds who also would like to accompany the trip," said Filbry.

Already set are two test matches in economic powerhouse cities of Tianjin and Changchun. In Tianjin, one of China's most important port cities, the Green-Whites will take on Tianjin TEDA FC on Wednesday 2 July 2014. The match against the 2011 Chinese cup winners will be played at TEDA Football Stadium.

Three days later, on Saturday 5 July 2014, there is a test match against the 2007 Chinese champions Changchun Yatai. The match in the capital of the Jilin province will be played at Changchun City Stadium. The city in the north-eastern part of the country is among the most important industrial cities in northern China.
