It was a strenuous day for Koen Casteels. On Thursday morning, the 22-year-old goalkeeper signed a loan deal with SV Werder until the end of the current season. There then followed a photo-shoot, press appointments and his first training session with his new team mates. In signing the former Belgian international youth team keeper, the club have added depth in the position between the posts.
The former Hoffenheim keeper, who signed a three and a half year deal with VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday, has been brought in to „fuel the battle for places and put pressure on the number one," explained Director of Sport Thomas Eichin. The new man himself knows the team comes first: „I will give my all for the good of the team," promised Casteels, who has already made a total of 41 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Focus on Werder
The keeper has now completely turned his attention to the job to be done on the banks of the Weser: „I am fully concentrated on Werder and I am not concerning myself with anything else now," insisted Casteels. On the contrary - at the end of a few turbulent days, the former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim man is happy to be able to concentrate on his sporting activities: „The last few days were long and I spent a lot of time cooked up in the car. Now I want to continue my sporting development in Bremen. I am really looking forward to the next six months."
